Bob Anderson Memorial Student Scholarship

The Society for Wildlife Forensic Science (SWFS) lost a valued member of the wildlife forensic community during the spring of 2016. Bob Anderson was a great friend and advocate for wildlife justice. His assistance with SWFS was critical to the success of this very young organization. He was involved from the very start, and in 2016 he co-hosted our international meeting of over 100 scientists in Missoula, Montana. Not only did he work tirelessly to get the meeting off the ground but he also sponsored a workshop which brought in thousands of dollars of much-needed funds for our organization. Bob led workshops at all three of our meetings, providing essential courtroom training for scientists who need to explain our work to judges and jurors. He had a way of presenting material that made it easy for us to understand. He had a great sense of humor, adventure, and intellectual curiosity. He was always very interesting to talk to about anything. He will be missed greatly by the wildlife forensic community, due to his commitment to the people working in the field, as well as to the wildlife.

With the assistance of his family, SWFS has established the Bob Anderson Memorial Student Scholarship to recognize outstanding work by students in the discipline he loved. Up to two winners will be chosen by a panel before the meeting and will be awarded $500 US dollars to assist with travel to the 2017 meeting in Scotland as well as free registration and a banquet ticket. Scholarship applications have now closed.
