SWFS 2019 – Denver

Join us for SWFS 2019 – Denver, June 10-14, where you will have the opportunity to visit the stunning Rocky Mountains in Denver, Colorado, attend beginner level and advance wildlife forensic training workshops and participate in two days plenary talks by members of the Society.

If you are a wildlife forensic science practitioner, this event will be a great opportunity for you to speak with other scientists directly and broaden your knowledge base.  You will have the chance to present your work in oral plenary and poster sessions.  This meeting is geared towards helping you network, share your challenges, successes and ideas.

If you are an attorney, this conference will bring scientists and prosecutors together to discuss efficient and effective ways to communicate about wildlife forensic science, incorporating such topics as “Wildlife Forensic Science for the Prosecutor,” admissibility of evidence, First Principles, ethics and human factors, what science can or cannot do, and ways to ask the appropriate questions and present the science accurately in a court of law.

If you are interested in becoming certified in Ivory identification, we have the workshop for you. The 2-day workshop will consist of a one ½-day training which will include lectures and practical examination of hundreds of ivory objects.  The last ½ day will consist of a practical proficiency test of three items. Upon successful completion, attendees will receive a SWFS certificate of competency on ivory identification.
